When talking to people about the computer engineering
program I asked one main question: What is the biggest benefit that computers
have brought to people. Zack Johns, a former computer teacher, told me that “Computers
have undoubtedly led to many scientific breakthroughs such as landing something
on Mars or finding treatments for diseases” (Johns). He went on to say that “Any
university that is thinking about cutting computer engineering is pushing
itself back too far in terms of technology.” When I asked student Marcel Hardy
the same question, he responded with “I think that cutting the major isn’t going
to solve any problems, and there could definitely be fewer requirements for the
degree” (Hardy).
Going off of what Johns stated, if the University of
Kentucky is striving to be a top twenty school, how can it possibly do that if it
doesn’t keep up with the technological needs of society? Computers in the upcoming future are going to
become more and more complicate, so why not produce the students that can make
these machines, but the only way to do that is to make some changes within the
major.
This is really a nice and informative, containing all information and also has a great impact on the new technology. Thanks for sharing it. Structured Programming Approach
